Football: Paxman hits the headlines for Thurrock

Ryman Premier

Hastings United 1 v 1 Thurrock

Bill Robinson reports from The Pilot Field………

THURROCK come away with a well earned point after a hard fought game in which the home side won the first half and Thurrock dominated the second, both sides needed but I feel Thurrock would the happier despite nearly winning the game in the closing minutes.

Thurrock started well and looked to be taking the game to the home side but Hastings soon got into their stride and were looking very dangerous on attack.

Thurrock struggled to defend corners and on 13minutes they had the ball in the net direct from a corner but it was disallowed for a foul on the Thurrock keeper,

Disappointly Thurrock fell behind after 35 mins, a corner on the left taken by Tom Vickers came over and Mikel Suarez rose above everyone and firmly planted the ball into the back of the net with his header.

HT 1-0

The second half changed with the substitutions made by manager Mark Stimson, Walster was replaced by Griffin, Imbert with Pavett and Honesty with Paxman.

Thurrock now looking more in control and attacking with more conviction and were looking likely to score when Jack Paxman collected the ball on the corner of the 18 yard box with one touch he drove a fierce shot straight into the far corner of the net for a fine equaliser.

Thurrock remained on top but Hastings still threatened on the break and David Hughes was called into action on a number of occasions.

With time running out Charlie Stimson had a fine header tipped over the bar and Matt Turpin had a shot blocked.

Thurrock : David Hughes, Ritchie Jones, Ben Walster, Darren Ebsworth, John Guest, Matt Turpin, Stuart Thurgood, Danny Green, Ryan Imbert, Charlie Stimson, Harry Honesty.

Subs: Jack Paxman, Wil Viner, Frank Griffin, Jack Jefferies, Jordan Pevett
