ANOTHER good performance from Aveley saw them stretch their winning run to six consecutive games.

The Millers made two changes from Wednesday night’s win over Cheshunt as Junior Appiah and Jack Stevenson came in for Rashid Kamara and Junior Dadson respectively.

Aveley could have taken a lead as early as the 35th second when a chance fell to Junior Appiah, however, he somehow smashed over from only six yards out.

In the eighth minute Witham players appealed for a penalty to be rewarded for a handball however referee Elliott Kaye stood firm.
Then just two minutes later some good play from Witham should have seen them score however James Stevens smashed well over the bar.

The opening goal did arrive in the 17th minute and it was of no surprise that it was the red hot Jordan Cox who lobbed Witham’s keeper for his eleventh goal in six games.

The game continued at a positive pace with lots of commitment on display from both sides in what was a good first half.

Aveley were given the chance to double their advantage in the 40th minute when Junior Appiah was fouled inside the box and Aveley awarded a penalty.

Jordan Cox made no mistake from the spot and gave the hosts a 2-0 half time lead.

Junior Appiah was mysteriously booked for what was no more than a clash of legs between him and Witham’s James Stevens as Witham’s bench in particular made their grievances heard.

In the 52nd minute Aveley keeper Andre Foster fumbled in the air which allowed Danny Emmanuel the chance to bring Witham back into the game and he duly obliged.

However, just four minutes later Aveley’s Jay Leader restored the two goal cushion with a header from a corner.
With manager Justin Gardner mindful of Monday night’s clash with Grays he made the decision to make three early substitutions. Jordan Cox not surprisingly received a standing ovation when he was replaced by Petrit Elbi.

Aveley remained committed and in truth were never in danger of conceding a second as the game petered out.

Aveley: Andre Foster, Marcus Rose, Teddy Nesbitt, Jay Leader, Bradley Thomas, Danny Hopkins (Ade Cole), Jack Stevenson, Billy Holland ©, Jordan Cox (Petrit Elbi), Paul Burnett, Junior Appiah (Sheldon Sellars). Subs Not Used: Brendan Cavalier, Rashid Kamara
