Thurrock 1 v 3 Carshalton

THURROCK suffered a disappointing home defeat against their relegation rivals and slipped to the bottom of the Ryman Premier table on Saturday.

Carshalton went ahead in the 17th minute when a free kick from just inside the Thurrock half was floated into the box where Thurrock’s defence failed to clear and the ball landed in front of Nathaniel Pinney. From close range he drove a low shot past Keeper Hughes and defender Guest on the line.

Thurrock came close to equalising just two minutes later with their only effort of the half, Danny Green broke down the right flank and his cross found the head of Ryan Imbert, but keeper Nick Hamann was able to save.

Carshalton could have added a further two goals when Luke Pigden blasted over from 12 yards out and then captain Justyn Roberts headed against the post from three yards out with the Thurrock defence beaten.

Once again Carshalton looked the stronger in the second period and increased their lead on 52 mintes when Pelayo
Pico Gomez made a break from his own half collecting a long through ball he could not be caught on his driving run and slammed the ball have from 10 yards.

Thurrock continued to push forward looking to get back into the game and had to wait till the 77th when Danny Green fired home a low left footed drive from the edge of the penalty box.

The goal gave Thurrock some encouragement to push all resources forward looking for the equaliser.

For a split second it looked like Harry Cook had scored in the 86th minute when breaking free of his defender he was one on one with the keeper and his toe poked effort rolled gently towards the goal only for it to strike the post and be cleared to safety.

Within seconds Carshalton sealed their win when once again Pinney collected the ball inside the Thurrock box and fired a low drive into the corner of the net giving keeper Hughes no chance.
