East Thurrock Utd 4 v 0 Carshalton Athletic
THE ROCKS continued their push up the table as they brushed aside relegation threatened Carshalton Athletic, 4-0 at Rookery Hill.
The first challenge for both teams was the sodden pitch. The Rocks groundstaff performed a minor miracle by getting the game underway.
But it was rocks who found their sea legs as they induced early panic in the Robins defence.
Robin’s striker Ryan Gardner had a good chance when he broke free, got into area but his curling shot was weak.
Much of Rock’s good work was coming from James Lawson on the right.
East Thurrock are a very entertaining team to watch and Covo’s men, despite the conditions, sprayed the ball around the park.
But the Robins were belying their league position. In the 28th minute, Tommy Bradford had a great chance when Ryan Gardner got to the dead-ball line, crossed and only the hand of keeper Elliot Justham prevented Bradford from close range.
Rocks broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. James Lawson won a very soft free kick. Sam Collins floated to the far post, it was headed down and Ross Parmenter banged it into the net.
Rocks extended their lead on the stroke of half time when Ryan Sammons took advantage of confusion in the box to fire a looping ball over the keeper and in.
The second half saw Rocks totally dominate possession.
In the 53td minute David Bryant pounced from close range. Three minutes later Sam Higgins got on the score sheet who took advantage of a great through ball by Ross Parmenter to thread the ball past the Robins keeper.
The Rocks took their foot off the gas and perhaps tried to walk the ball in.
Fair play to Carshalton. They never gave up and although they have the look of a team facing relegation, they competed right until the end.
