OVER £2,000 was raised at a special charity football match in Tilbury.
Sonway ‘Juniors’ played a charity reunion match – for Charlie Lawrence’s Marathon fund for Joint Action – at Tilbury’s Chadfields. Charlie is set to run the London Marathon in April just months before his 70th birthday.
All of the original Sonway players were there except for two who now live abroad.
However Terry Kane travelled from Ireland and Mick Lewis came down from Stoke.
Charity donations included a Manchester United signed ball and a washing machine. Dave Huckle gave a signed West Ham United shirt.
Charlie Lawrence thanked Tilbury Football Club and sponsors Direct Flooring/Thurrock FC who supplied and washed the 26 football kits needed for the encounter.
T.A.C.A FC were Sonway’s opponents on the day.
Trevor Megran, Andy Simmonds and Daniel Pollock were the unpaid match officials.
