LAST Saturday Thurrock Labour Party held a “Faith and Politics” meeting at the RCCG Grays.

Over 30 members of different faith communities in Thurrock attended to talk to PPC Polly Billington and RT Hon Stephen Timms MP, Chair of the Christian Socialist movement and MP for East Ham about why faith and politics should be a powerful unifying force for good.

Polly Billington said: “We have strong and thriving faith communities in Thurrock and it was great to get people from all faiths and none to talk about the values we share.

Too often we focus on our differences: this was a chance to talk about what brings us together. We spent time identifying what we want to improve in our community that would benefit people regardless of religion; from being paid a living wage, to tackling crime and supporting our young people to learn and get good jobs.

I hope we will be able to meet again and bring many more people together to work towards some real changes that can make us proud of Thurrock.”

  1. Pleased to see Gerard Rice in the background. He wouldn’t want communities fenced off, would he?

  2. Labour’s view of Thurrock under Polly. By bye Thurrock, hello London Borough of Thurrock. And just how does socialism reconcile itself with religion. Particularly Labours version of socialism. Anything for a photo for Sister Polly.

  3. It’s good to see the MP for East Ham there, hopefully he’s giving Polly ideas about how best to turn Thurrock into a subsidiary of the socialist utopia that is Newham – a borough with many different cultures, other than English of course!
