Athletics: Big turnout from Harriers at Crown 5K

OVER 300 athletes turned out for the Good Friday Crown to Crown 5K including 14 runners from Thurrock Harriers.

Harriers were led by Nick Houghton who finished fourth in 17m 21s.

Scott Rice came sixth in 18m 30s and Alec Finch finished 10th in 18m 58s. Liam Appleyard was 23rd in 20m35s.

One of the clubs very young athletes Demi Eaves reduced a personal best by 3 minutes to 27m 44s.

Matthew Shields, the club’s former 400m recorded 21m27s in 32nd place.

His wife Gillian, who was a county level endurance runner when she ran for the club in her youth, ran really well to record 23m25s.

Other finishers were Don Lawless 16th 19m32s, John Russell 32nd 21m01s, Anthony Tobin 36th 21m11s, Mick Bumstead 52nd in 22m32s, Nigel Instance 54th in 22m55s, Gary Cahill 56th in 22m51s, Richard Amery in 22m44s, Bernie Johnson 67th in 23m31s.
