A GRAYS man was fined after attempting to bring drugs into a Suffolk prison in a balloon reports the Bury Free Press.
Conor Hughes, 21, hid a quantity of cannabis inside a balloon as he visited a friend at Highpoint prison in Suffolk
Hughes was charged under breaching the Prisons Act instead of under the Misuse of Drugs Act as the problem of drug smuggling at Highpoint was becoming and increasing problem the court was told.
Judge John Devaux sentenced him to 16 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months and ordered him to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
He will be under Probation supervision for 12 months and pay £900 costs.
