Ryman Div One North
Aveley 1 v 0 Redbridge
AVELEY need two points from their last two games to make quite sure of a Ryman North play-off spot after Monday’s home win over Redbridge.
Millers dominated throughout the game but struggled to create clear cut chances until Jack Stevenson’s accurate finish provided the only goal late in the first half.
The second half was a more even affair, though Redbridge keeper Dean Neill was the busier stopper and also had to deal with abuse and coins thrown from a young mob of Aveley followers behind his goal whose offensive chants towards the Redbridge female phsyio could also land the home side in some trouble.
The match itself became fractious in the closing stages and referee Stuart Franklin had to step between a melee of brawling players in the closing moments, though he settled the dispute without recourse to cards.
Redbridge have some reason to be pleased by the narrow margin of defeat. By keeping the score down they go into the last day of the season leading bottom club Ilford by three points and nine goals.
Aveley play Waltham Abbey at Mill Lane on Wednesday at 7.45pm. Followed by their final game of the season at Soham Town Rangers away on Saturday.
