THE STORY OF the burgeoning Thurrock Community Business Radio station is very encouraging and just like buses another radio station may be on its way.

Funky SX has been developing its profile around the county for a number of years now.

They are looking for support from local community groups and charities to assist them in their application to Ofcom for a community FM radio licence for Grays at the end of this year.

Spokesperson, Miles Shrimpton said: “We will provide a platform for local news/information, local history, to showcase local talent and publicise local events.

In particular giving volunteer run, community based projects, charity events and our local government a platform.

“We will always be focusing strongly towards the underprivileged youth of the area.”

Once set up, the station hope to be able to expand their ‘Funky Academy ‘ a volunteer run media training for the underprivileged and unemployed, where they will provide skills development, education and confidence building.

The radio station will provide a platform to further careers especially in media, broadcasting and the music industry.

Miles continued: “The allocation of a legal FM licence to a young community based station working alongside our music production and radio presentation workshops, would give the underprivileged youth a direction and a path to take.”
