Just a reminder: No council poll this year

DESPITE the national focus about local elections across England in May, there are no elections in Thurrock scheduled for this year.

Thurrock elects councillors for three years out of four – and 2013 is what is known as a “fallow” year. A third of the council’s 49 seats will be up for election in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The council’s elections and democratic services teams have received a few enquiries following the national television party political broadcasts and election-related stories in the national and regional papers.

However, homes across the borough will have been receiving “household voter registration forms” as Thurrock Council must keep an up-to-date register of voters. It is essential these changes are made to the electoral register so people can vote at election time.

If the details on the form people receive are correct, nothing else has to be done, but if the details are wrong, the form should be filled in and returned to the council’s elections office at Thurrock Council, Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL.
