Tank and car collide at Giffards Crossroads, Corringham


Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Giffords Cross Road, Corringham, this morning (Friday May 3, 2013).

It happened at around 9.30am and involved a silver Mini and a Shell fuel tanker. The mini was being driven by a 68-year-old woman from Fobbing who is currently in Basildon Hospital suffering from severe internal injuries.

Her 82-year-old passenger, who lives in Stanford-le-hope, suffered a serious leg injury and is also being treated at Basildon Hospital.

The 50-year-old driver of the tanker who lives in Pitsea was not injured. The carriageway was closed from the time of the incident until 4pm.

Any witnesses should contact Pc Tim Hardy-Wallace at Laindon Road Policing Unit on Essex Police 101.

A1014 The Manorway in Corringham closed and slow traffic eastbound at the Springhouse Lane junction, because of an accident involving a car and a tanker and recovery work. Diversion in operation.


Firefighters were called to an RTC involving a petrol tanker and a car. Two women were trapped by their injuries.

Fire and ambulance crews released the casualties by 10:21hrs.


THERE are reports that a petrol tanker and a car have collided at the junction of Manor Way and Springhouse Lane (Giffards Cross Roads).
