Walking down the right path in Thurrock

MAY is national walking month and Thurrock Council is joining many organisations in highlighting walking opportunities in the borough.

As well as being a personally healthy pursuit, walking can provide other benefits, such as seeing things you miss when inside a car and being environmentally friendly.

Thurrock’s road safety team is carrying out a Walk to School week starting on Monday, 24 May, with all but one of the borough’s schools taking part.

But walking is something the council promotes all the time and it helps organise regular weekly events:

Mondays, Aveley Clinic, Hall Road, Aveley, 1pm, Buggy Walk

Tuesdays, Blackshots, Blackshots Lane, Grays, 10.30am, two miles
Tuesdays, Coalhouse Fort, Princess Margaret Road, East Tilbury, 2pm, 2.3 miles

Wednesdays, Community Mums and Dads, 23 to 25 Calcutta Road, Tilbury, 10.30am, Buggy Walk
Wednesdays, South Ockendon Forum, 29 Derwent Parade, South Ockendon, 1pm, Buggy Walk
Wednesdays, RSPB Rainham Marshes, New Tank Hill Road, Purfleet, 1.30pm, 2.5 miles

Thursdays, RSPB Rainham Marshes, New Tank Hill Road, Purfleet, 12.15pm, 2.5 miles

Fridays, The Beacon Centre, Drake Road, Chafford Hundred, 10.30am, Buggy Walk
Fridays, Chafford Gorge Visitors Centre, Drake Road, Chafford Hundred, 10.30am, 30 minute walk
Fridays, Davy Down Pump Station, Back Lane, North Stifford, 1.30pm, one hour walk

There is no need to book places, just turn up, but take note that all distances and timings are approximate.

Details are available on Thurrock Council’s Travel Thurrock internet page (http://www.thurrock.gov.uk/travel/walking/) and on the free Travel Thurrock mobile phone app.

The pages also contain links to walking events, rights of way maps and other useful information.
