Council apologise after bin confusion

FOUR out of every five Thurrock homes are having the day their bins are collected changed.

The council has tried to ensure that everyone affected was informed of the change in the week before it took place.

Cllr Victoria Holloway, portfolio holder for environment, said: “We are sorry if some of the information cards not being delivered before the new collection day caused residents inconvenience.”

“We were expecting problems while everyone gets used to the new system, and we are doing everything we can to give our residents the advice and assistance they need.”

She added: “Changing the collections is a mammoth task – over 80 per cent of households are seeing a change in collection day – and everyone should receive a card to confirm what that day is, whether there’s a change or not, and it also advises them of the public holiday collection schedules for the rest of this year.”

The council is aware that some Monday (3 June) collections were missed as the cards were delivered after the collection had taken place and it is returning to those streets throughout Tuesday.

  1. So Vicky’s promise of “same service, different day” is off to a shaky start… Are we going to get daily updates when there are missed collections tomorrow?

  2. I am trying to work out why the changes were made in the first place? is this a cost saving exercise or just change for change sake>>

  3. What a shame, working on this for months but then a Bank Holiday suddenly appeared the week before this change, and they had such a mammoth job delivering postcards with the new collection date on in only four days.

  4. Cheers Fred, so the Refuse Operatives now have longer rounds, 25 down to 21? one other way to save money and the environmental costs is to have a dual purpose waggon that can take standard refuse and recycled refuse that way there would be less waggons on the road, saving in fuel costs, road tax, and emmisions.
