THE UK’s fastest growing international film festival, Thurrock International Film Festival, has closed its deadline for short film submissions for the 2013 festival, and the festival beat the amount received last year by double.
Last year the festival received 106 films for its short film competition from 13 different countries, this year it has received more than 240 films from 35 different countries! Including films from Australia, China, U.S.A., Germany, Finland, Brazil and Mexico.
“We set our selves the target of doubling our entries and increasing the number of counties represented from 13 to 18 and we smashed both targets! We are extremely pleased.” Says organiser Natalie Williams.
They festival has already garnered two celebrity judges for the competition actors Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time) and Brian Blessed (Flash Gordon, The Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists!), with more judges to be announced in the coming weeks. There are also software prizes up for grabs from Lightworks (An Editshare professional editing programme).
The organisers are also in the middle of planning lots of exciting events and screenings for the festival, which will take place 23rd – 28th September this year. “We have some really brilliant events planned for this year’s festival that we are sure the people of Thurrock will love.” Says organiser Benjamin Scarsbrook.
It will mainly take place at the Thameside Theatre, Grays. “We are delighted to announce that Thurrock Council have joined our list of current sponsors for the 2013 festival.” Says Natalie.
