Mike Le-Surf was born in Essex and has lived here all his life. He is the Leader of the Labour Group on Brentwood Council and works for a learning disability charity. He is married and has two daughters.
Mike Le-Surf, Labour’s General Election candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock, said:
“It’s an honour to be selected by local members to be Labour’s General Election candidate for the key Battleground seat of South Basildon and East Thurrock.
“People here are being let down by a Tory-led Government that is standing by doing nothing to tackle rising prices and is making working families pay more while millionaires are getting a tax cut. It is only Labour that will stand up for our communities.
“It’s time for a One Nation approach. The current Conservative MP voted for policies that really hurt local people and left families here worse off. Labour would guarantee a job for anyone in South Basildon and East Thurrock who has been out of work for more than two years and open up the energy market, forcing energy companies to pass on savings to customers.
“I will be a strong voice for South Basildon and East Thurrock. I will fight the damage being done by this Tory-led Government and I will always do the right thing for our communities.”
Baroness Angela Smith said:
“I’m delighted that Mike will be our candidate for the next General Election. He really cares about local people and this area and I’m confident that he will make a first-rate MP.”
