THE Stanford Forum are now set for this year’s Stanford Music Festival on Saturday the 6th July. There were initial concerns as to whether they could stage the festival after the three year sponsorship deal with Redrow Homes finished but after appealing for new sponsors they are pleased to be able to continue to put on probably the best free musical festival in Essex. With help from Murphy, igloo (a graphic design company) and DP World and dipping into their reserves, the festival that is in its 15th year is once again set to keep Stanford at the forefront of the Thurrock festival scene.
With 20 acts appearing during the festival which kicks off at 2pm over the Crooked Billet Recreation Ground, Billet Lane, you can be sure there will be something there for everyone. Bands on the main stage include Break for Cover, Indigo, The Beagles, Magic Sticks, Grounds for Divorce, Anuva Cover, Queens English and headlining The Heaters, who are guaranteed to send everyone home in a great party mood. In between the sets there will be appearances from previous Thurrock’s Got Talent acts and there will be a small stage in the Crooked Billet beer garden.
The festival regularly attracts over 5,000 visitors of all ages during the day; with the emphasis on a good family day out, many families bring chairs and a picnic although there is a good selection of food available, there is also a funfair on site from the 4th July.
Terry Piccolo chair of the Stanford Forum said “Back in December it was touch and go but thanks to the new sponsors we are able to continue the Festival. It is getting harder each year to keep the festival free and we have had to dip into our reserves this year. To help top up our reserves and to start the fundraising for next year we have taken out a Just Giving number so if people enjoy the day they can text TSMF13 followed by £2 to 70070 to help us out.”
