Thurrock businesses welcome the TIGER scheme

OVER 100 businesses were at the first joint Thurrock-Gravesham networking breakfast on Thursday (20 June) morning.

Held at the London Cruise Terminal in Tilbury the event brought together businesses from both sides of the Thames, proving the river is no barrier to doing business.

Cllr John Kent, Leader of Thurrock Council, and Melanie Norris, Director (Communities) at Gravesham Council welcomed delegates and a representative from the TIGER – Thames Gateway Innovation, Growth and Enterprise – funding team gave a presentation on the zero per cent loan fund available to businesses in the two boroughs.

Speaking afterwards, Cllr Kent said: “The TIGER scheme is innovative, new and unusual as it does actually bridge the river, a real and positive link between south Essex and north Kent.

“I am told that in Thurrock alone, five of ten applications for TIGER funding are being progressed and could mean 71 new full-time and 10 new part-time jobs – as well as helping preserve 54 existing jobs.

“The TIGER scheme launched locally in March this year and is part of the government’s £2.4 billion Regional Growth Fund. It offers low-interest loans to businesses investing in new products and services creating long-term job opportunities.

Business were given ample opportunity to network with each other, which is a valuable tool to help them generate new customers and win new business
