OUR REPORTER should know. He has been attending concerts in Thurrock for over thirty years. He has seen some very fine and some that have been a tad “underwhelming” but the “A Common Territory” concert on Friday night at the Civic Hall stunned and amazed.
The centre piece of the concert was the blending of the work of the Chris Brubeck jazz quartet and the Orchestra Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne. Any performance that begins with Beethoven’s Seventh and ends with jazz classic Take Five has something to enthrall.
It was a concert that was eclectic beyond belief. Infact, next time you look up eclectic in the dictionary, you will see a picture of a perfect summers evening in Blackshots when the common territory in Thurrock was a spellbindingly good concert.
RM19 fulfilled all the promise that they had shown in rehearsals as well as in the Fused concerts. They were so ably led by the charismatic Dominic Peckham.
The concert finished with a standing ovation. We are sure it finished way past its official time but that tells you what a blast everyone was having.
This may well be the highlight of the Thurrock International Celebration of Culture. Congratulations to one and all.
