Cricket: Magnificent Jeffries strikes again

Braydon Scarlett captured his first five-wicket haul in this Shepherd Neame Essex League “friendly division” encounter on Saturday. Scarlett’s figures were 5-23 from seven overs but it was the home side who edged to a one-wicket win through Ben Wilkes who crafted a fine match-winning innings of 70 not out. Earlier, Mark Fogg hit 45 as Kevin Mariyaselan and E. Scott picked up three wickets each for Hainault and Clayhall. Then team colleagues Ashwin Kandeepan, Usamah Patel, Wilkes and Dinesh Pirabaharan shared the remaining Belhus wickets to fall.

Belhus 3rd 77-1

It took Belhus, or more specifically their captain Stuart Morris, just 8.3 overs to reach the winning post in the Shepherd Neame Essex League on Saturday. Morris hit 54 not out with the only blemish coming when Oliver Kersley (1-22 from 3.3 overs) bowled Peter Clark. Keith Dhannie and Robert Long picked up 3-3 and 3-10 for the rampant visitors.

Stanford le Hope 2nd 88 all out

Belhus all-rounder Jack Plane struck 38 runs then picked up four wickets at a cost of just eight runs from 5.1 overs at Stanford Recreation Ground on Sunday. Sam Hall also picked up four wickets, for eleven runs in seven overs. The remaining two wickets were claimed by John Wilson (2-5 from four overs).
Greg Mendham and Danny Norris boosted the Belhus total with 44 and 38 respectively while Drum was instrumental for the home side; he was the leading wicket taker with three wickets as well as being top scorer for the hosts with 22 runs.

Eastonians 209 all out

Gavin Jefferies hit a magnificent 103, Martin Guilbert struck 59 while Mark Fogg reached his maiden half-century in scoring 56 in a solid Belhus batting performance at North Stifford. After tea, Roy Heffernan picked up 3-68 while there were two wickets apiece for Chris Baker and Danny Joyce.

Ryan Wells of Belhus plundered a match winning innings of 76 as he put on 95 for the opening partnership with Michael Fogg, who contributed 37. Jack Walsh emerged with credit for Horndon as he picked up both Belhus wickets to fall in this Essex Sunday League clash, to finish with 2-11 from four overs which included one maiden. Before tea, Danny Norris and Paul Bennett claimed 3-27 and 3-28 respectively while Sam Hall impressed with 2-12 from seven overs (three maidens). Gary Ginsburgh was by far the most successful Horndon batsman with 53.
