IT was all smiles at The Big Lunch on Wednesday (24 July) as hundreds of people flocked to Grays Town Park with their picnics under a blazing sun.

The fifth Big Lunch proved it is growing in popularity every year on the borough’s summer event calendar.

The afternoon was a perfect opportunity for local people to get together meet their neighbours and enjoy the fun.

There were plenty of free activities from woodworking, climbing, boxing, cycling and zumba dancing to keep everyone entertained for hours.

A number of local voluntary organisations also gave their support with information stalls and council staff were also on hand to showcase their services to the public.

The Big Lunch has also secured a Sharing Heritage grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help secure people’s memories of the area.
