Ryman Div One North
Brentwood 1 v 3 Aveley
AVELEY secured a third successive Ryman One North victory with a 3-1 win away at Brentwood thanks to goals from Jason Twum
and a brace from Junior Appiah.
After naming an unchanged side for their 1-0 win over Romford 48 hours earlier, Justin Gardner made
four changes this time around for the bank holiday trip to Brentwood. All three substitutes from the Romford win, Kadir Jama, Anton Stephenson and Ross Wall, made way for
Sosthene Yao, Shane Oakley and the injured Danny Hopkins. Aveley were indebted to their goalkeeper, Jack Giddens, for making sure they weren't punished for
their slow start as the Millers number one made a smart double save early on
- first keeping out Junior Lawrence before getting up quickly to stop James Love from smashing in the rebound. However two goals in two first half minutes for Appiah set the platform for the win. The first came on 31 minutes when he got on the end of a flowing move to convert and
the second came after a lovely one-two with Brian Okwera. Aveley were in control for most of the second half with keeper Jack Giddens hardly being tested,
but nerves were jangled when former player Gbenga Sonuga scored with seven minutes remaining. A nervy finish was calmed somewhat when Jason Twum scored in the final minute of normal time.
