Parents of children who will leave primary school in 2014 – those born between 1 September 2002 and 31 August 2003 – must apply for a secondary school place for September 2014.
Thurrock Council has an efficient and effective online system for people with access to the internet – last year nearly nine out of ten people applied this way.
Applications for admissions to secondary school open on Monday, September 2 with a closing date of Thursday, 31 October. Parents are warned that if they don’t meet the deadline, their children will be allocated a place at a school with space available, after all on-time applications have been dealt with.
The simplest method of applying is online at www.thurrock.gov.uk/admissions and then following the instructions. Parents can also see an electronic copy of the council’s composite prospectus for Thurrock secondary schools which should be read before completing an application.
The council has also arranged three briefing events if parents want more information. They are on Thursday, 12 September at the Civic Hall,
Blackshots Lane, Grays, from 7pm to 8.30pm; Monday, 16 September at the Thameside Theatre, Orsett Road, Grays, from 7pm to 8.30pm; and Thursday, 19 September at the Culver Centre, Daiglen Drive, South Ockendon, from 4.30pm to 6pm.
Online applicants will find offers available from 12.30am on 3 March next year by logging into their account.
It is imperative applications list up to six schools in order of preference, including
any schools outside the borough. The supplementary forms that some schools require must also be completed, and if parents have more than one child transferring to secondary school, it is essential that applications for each child needing a place are filled in.
