Athletics: Harriers shine at Southend Open

A HANDFUL of Thurrock Harriers produced some great results at the Southend open on Bank Holiday Monday. Ben Gibbs ran an impressive sub 11 second seasons best and personal best of in the senior mens 100m which kicked off a volley of personal best performances and medal placements from all who attended.

Shannon Jameson followed suit by improving her 100m to a new personal best of 13.53s (5th place) and again with a new pb of 12.68 for her 80mh which bagged her second place. To complete her hectic day Shannon leapt out to 9.44m in triple jump which is just shy of her season and personal best.

Aidan Simpson was another who improved. Aidan jumped 1.70m in his high jump to come away in second place overall in the competition. Alice Martin came in to take a well deserved 2nd place in the U17 javelin with a throw of 21.63 and also a great run in the U17 100m to come away with a seasons best performance 14.63s and to round off a successful day for the Thurrock Harrier squad, Duane Jibunoh finished in 1st place in the SM discus with a solid throw of 45.01m.
