SWIFT work between residents, Thurrock Council’s CCTV team and local police led to thugs being caught on Monday (9 September) evening.
Local councillor, Angie Gaywood, had received complaints from older people living in the Crammavill Street area of Grays – some local youths were taunting older women.
The council’s CCTV team arranged for residents to have a direct dial number for the CCTV control room and on Monday evening they used it.
Council staff informed police who reacted quickly and caught the culprits.
Cllr Gaywood said: “I would like to thank everyone involved, from the CCTV team to the police. After I’d had some complaints from residents, I spoke with the CCTV team and the police. It’s great when things work so well.
“The residents are thankful too and I’m told police took the names of the youths and we were able to get some very good CCTV images of them. They were shocked when they found out we had been watching them – hopefully word will spread now and this menace will come to an end.”
