Students strut their stuff on Lakeside catwalk

INTU Lakeside hosted a series of fashion shows with a difference on Saturday 5th October featuring garments designed and created by Chelmsford College Art & Design students. Each item was created from recycled bags donated by many of the centre’s shops, including Primark, Forever 21 and Debenhams.

Part of the local students’ level 3 BTEC extended diploma, the project was designed to raise awareness of environmental issues and the students were inspired by both contemporary catwalk designers and ‘up cycling’ techniques.

Izzie Peskett, Marketing Manager for intu Lakeside, said: “We love to host events with a difference and it was clear that our shoppers thoroughly enjoyed the Chelmsford College students’ fashion shows. Showcasing local talent is incredibly rewarding and it was a real pleasure to provide a big stage for such talented young individuals.”

Shoppers were also treated to 19 more free fashion shows in association with HELLO! on the same weekend featuring items from a wide range of intu Lakeside shops.
