TILBURY took the points with a late late Francis Babalola winner in an uninspiring game at the Brentwood Arena on Saturday.
As Tilbury have done of late, started strongly with Danny Francis crossing for Harry Cook who headed just over after just 2 minutes. A few minutes later Chico Ramos in the Tilbury goal made a good double save from Subuola.
The remainder of the half was a disappointing affair, littered with fouls.
Tilbury took the lead within 3 minutes of the resumption when Harry Cook latched on to a cross and goal machine Danny Francis got his foot in before the on rushing keeper tried to smother. On 60, the game was delayed for 7 minutes when Tilbury’s centre half Jake Pooley clashed heads and was taken to hospital where he had 6 stitches in a head wound.
On 65 Brentwood went close when Subuola hit his low effort just wide. Straight from the restart an Ashton cross found Ryan Blackman whose flick hit the base of the post. Brentwood never let up and rewarded on 68 when a cross from the right found Scott Williams to flick home unmarked in to the net. Ramos was still busy with Brentwood going for the win.
The game looked to be fizzling out for a draw, until a goal 3 minutes in to injury time when Nathan Ashton got himself in to the box and he was tripped, but the ball fell to the feet of substitute Francis Babalola who slotted home. There was still time for Subulola to have another effort on goal, but again Ramos saved to his left.
After the game Manager Paul Vaughan said “I am delighted to pick up our first 3 points away from home”
Tilbury travel again this Tuesday when they go to FA Cup heroes Heybridge Swifts with a 7.45pm kick off.
