SSE NATIONAL 3 (LSE)
Thurrock 24 v 24 CS Rugby
THURROCK secured their first points of the season from a well deserved draw, in fact they probably edged the encounter overall but just ran out of time.
Thurrock got off to a fantastic start with two tries both coming from second row Dritan Loka with Frankie Neale adding the conversion to his send in what was a dominant period for the home side. The visitors on a good run in the league so far gradually started to come back into the game and with a strong breeze to their advantage started to turn the Thurrock backs, they eventually got on the score sheet with an unconverted try and just moments before the break repeated the effort for Thurrock to take a narrow lead 12-10 at the break.
The visitors continued the good work after the break and took the lead within 5 minutes of the restart, this time converted, they then scored a rather controversial try, a penalty under the posts 5 yards the referee indicated a scrum but they took a quick tap and scored, the referee allowed the score much to the amazement of the Thurrock side, after such a great start now find themselves 24-12 down.
That try though spurred a great Thurrock fight back and the home side started to dominate and the CS started to give away penalties at frequent intervals, up stepped Frankie Neale and slowly chipped away at the deficit landing 3 consecutive penalties to bring Thurrock within 3 points, an effort from the half way line fell short but with 3 minutes remaining he had a chance to level the score he made no mistake this time.
With just moments of the match left either side ensured they would not make an error to give any chance to force a result. It was a senior debut for Brenton Bird and the first home game for new fly half Ashley Meek both acquitted themselves admirably
