IN APRIL, three men were arrested after a number of agencies swooped on a field in Purfleet, where masses of household and business waste was illegally dumped on open land and camouflaged as plastic-wrapped hay bales.
Now, six months later, residents near to the field on the Arterial Road in Purfleet are complaining that the unsightly bales are still there.
One resident who lives near to the fields said: “They look terrible. I can see litter fall out of them and spread over the fields.
“They can’t be good for the environment and are hardly a good advert for Thurrock.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency would not be drawn on when or if the bales would be removed.
He said: “Enquiries are still on-going”
