A BATTLING performance by The Fleet saw them take a point from Oakside in a lively encounter

Thurrock took a thoroughly deserved point away at Redbridge today and it could have been all three.

With the game in possible doubt a final pitch inspection announced the match on and the boggy conditions were always going to make it tough for Thurrocks passing style but they coped well. The Fleet created numerous chances first half and bossed the opening exchanges with Knight and Stimson looking sharp up front. Midway through the first half Thurrock lost defender Rob Gilman to injury and he was replaced by young Connor Martin. The opening goal came late on in the first half and it was Redbridge who took the lead. Goalkeeper Jake Knight had just made a top save from Ben Bradbury’s shot but from the resulting corner he failed to hold the cross and Redbridge Captain Daniel Smith stabbed home in the melee to give them a 44th minute lead. However it might be a candidate for the shortest lead of all time as Thurrock hit back immediately when a bad back pass was missed by keeper David McCartney and Brad Warner (pictured) took full advantage to level it and go in 1-1 at halftime.

The second half was a more even affair with both sides creating chances however Thurrock seem to be more thwarted by the officials than the Redbridge defence. Several times the linesman on the far side waved offside when striker David Knight looked clearly onside much to the team and supporters’ frustration especially as our pace against their defence looked the best prospect of a goal.

Thurrock lost Connor Martin to injury towards the end of the game and were left with 10 men having made all their subs however the game remained 1-1 even with 7 minutes additional time at the end.

A battling performance by The Fleet who put a great effort despite missing some of the first team regulars and were unlucky not to come away with the win.
