Popular former Grays school deputy head passes away

A MUCH-LOVED former deputy head of Grays School has lost his battle with leukaemia.

Simon Viccars was the principal of Sir Herbert Leon Academy in Bletchley in Buckinghamshire.

He had been principal there since 2004. He passed away on Thursday (November 14th).

But Simon was best known in Thurrock when he was deputy head of the Grays school, now known as Hathaway Academy where he was clearly remembered as a warm, considerate and inspirational teacher.

viccars2Simon was fondly remembered at Grays school and many former students and staff have gone on to the condolence page on facebook to pay their respects and share their memories.

Simmi Naddoo posted: “What an inspirational educator. Simon you were the first person in SLT at Grays to have confidence in my abilities as an overseas trained teacher. The world is at a loss and poorer for your early departure. Hope you are rocking in the big classroom in the sky”.

Lisa Pollyblank-Hughes posted: “Mr Vicaars x a truly great man and fantastic teacher, remember him very well from Grays school , was my teacher for a few years x my thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends xx a great loss xx”.

Pat Frost posted: “I had the pleasure of working with Simon when I was a student teacher at The Grays in the early 80’s, of knowing him as a parent when my sons were pupils there and working with him again when he was the Deputy Head there.I liked and admired him in all three guises. A good man, he will be sadly missed”.
