CHELMSFORD 10k has a reputation of being a really fast course and 6
Thurrock Harriers put that reputation to the test last Sunday
Top Harrier performance in the field of 500 came from Jodie Farrell who
was 10th in the ladies section of the race and again runner up in the
FV45+ age group. More significantly perhaps she lowered her personal
best by a massive one and a half minutes to 42m50s. Over the past year
at this distance she has improved by 7 minutes.
First Harrier to cross the line was Mick Bumstead (MV60) who was 47th
overall in the race. He was delighted to dip under 40 minutes again
with a time of 39m34s. Another runner pleased with the same achievement
was John Russell with a time of 39m37s in 55th place.
Another vast improver, since he joined the club from Woodford Green
earlier this year, is Martin Mack. Judging his run well he shaved 40
seconds from his pb with a time of 40m26s. After a series of injuries
and illness it was good to see Jason Syrett showing good form again
with a time of 40m40s. Gary Cahill (senior) returned a time of 41m44s
which was another
very significant improvement and brought him a place in the top 100.
This week the club tackle the County Veterans Cross Country
Championships. With strong teams in all sections of the races the Club
is also looking forward to individual success with Mick Bumstead in
the 60+ section, Pat Dobbs 70+ and Scott Rice will be hoping to repeat
last year’s success when he was runner up in the 40+ race. It will
be interesting to see if Jodie Farrell can continue her outstanding
road form on the mud at Claybury where the races begin at 11.00 a.m.
