Thurrock swimmers dedicate Essex Champs to Alan

Essex Winter Championships, 25th to 27th November 2013

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club showed their determination to compete at the recent Essex County Junior/Senior Long Course Championships following the sad death of their Head Coach, Alan Mitchell but did him proud by returning home with a bag full of medals.

Leading the way for TSC was Azar Aitmarri who won silver for the 200m butterfly and bronzes for the 1500m freestyle and 100m butterfly followed by Martine Tran with silver for the 50m butterfly and bronze for the 50m backstroke. The medal haul was completed with Jay Pilkington with bronzes for both the 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly, Jamie Speers bronze for the 400m freestyle and Andrew Martindale bronze for the 400m individual medley.

Overall the club produced 46 top 6 placings over the weekend with many personal bests being set by the swimmers. Also producing notable long course swims were Imagine Stuart, Callum Bazela, Gracie Mae Martin, James Martindale, Ellen Pegram, Annabel Speers, Rebecca West, Louie Ridgway, Aimee Newport, Louis Morris, Lewis Cutting, Luke Crofts, Danny Patterson, Jack Williams, Sam Barella, Rebecca Honeywell, Eden Astbury, Mia Fursedonne, Tillie Geggus, James Edgings, Harry Millsom and Jack Conroy.

Essex ASA gave a speech and one minute clapping ovation in Alan’s memory with many officials, swimmers and spectators wearing purple ribbons.
