Update: Orsett shooting: Police guard at man’s bedside

Update: 1000 hrs

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are today continuing with their enquiries following a shooting in south west Essex on Tuesday December 3.

Police were contacted at just after 3pm yesterday after reports of a domestic incident inside a property in Hemley Road, Orsett.

One man, believed to be in his early 60s, was declared dead at the scene. Another man, thought to be in his 40s, was taken to a London hospital suffering from gunshot injuries. A firearm was found at the property. The injured man’s condition is described as critical but stable. Officers are remaining with him.

DI Martin Pasmore, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “We understand that the two men involved are known to each other. At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.”

 

Update: 0800 hrs

POLICE are at the bedside of a man who received gunshot wounds in an incident in Orsett on Tuesday afternoon.

The man was rushed to a London hospital after another man was found dead in Hemley Road.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.

A major investigation unit remains at the quiet street, off the Orsett Cock, alongside a couple of police cars.

YT understands that the men are known to each other and that the police are not looking for anyone else.

One of the residents of the estate is Thurrock councillor, Angie Gaywood.

Cllr Gaywood, who is the Labour portfolio holder for public protection spoke to YT last night (Tuesday).

Cllr Gaywood said: “This is a very quiet neighbourhood. It is tucked away,infact a lot of people do not know it is here.

“This has all come as a shock to us all.”
