THE PRESIDENT of the Danny Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside, Danny Lawrence has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Years Honours List.
Danny (46) received the award for his services to community radio.
Danny said: “It is with great pleasure to be awarded The British Empire Medal (BEM).
“Community radio is a field that I have been involved with for many years, working at many radio stations across the South East.
“I have been involved in the media industry since 1984 and this year I celebrate 30 years of such involvement. As a child, I always wanted to work in radio and I was very lucky to have my work experience at Radio Basildon, BBC Radio London and LBC 261.
“It goes to show that if you have a dream you can fulfil that dream if you work hard enough and don’t give up.
Many in the east of the borough will hear Danny on Gateway FM.
Sandra Manning from Chafford Hundred has received an OBE for services to Tax Compliance and voluntary service to the community.
Sandra is the Business Unit Head, Local Compliance, London, HM Revenue and Customs.
We would also like to give a mention to Basildon Lib Dem councillor, Geoff Williams who also received an OBE. Geoff has been a stalwart councillor for many years as well as a prospective parliamentary candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock on a number of occasions.
