Bulphan WI: Auction time at the WI

By Janet McCheyne

JUNE Ward, vivacious ex-Essex WI chairman, turned into an accomplished auctioneer at Bulphan WI’s January meeting. A very wide variety of items had been donated by members: they included a “cupcake” teapot, microwaveable slippers, toiletries, picture frames, books, bags, a “Call the Midwife” jigsaw and a lovely handmade Advent calendar.

£75 was raised for our funds, and we had some fun – especially when unsold items had to be purchased for 50p by members whose names were pulled out of the hat.

June proudly modelled the attractive scarf we presented to her as a thank you. Several bags of food were collected for Thurrock Food bank and we voted for Organ Donation as the resolution we would like to debate in May.

New member Maureen Wall was warmly welcomed, as was visitor Jan, Fay’s friend, and we said Au Revoir (for now) to Pat Pohl, who has been a very supportive member. We hope she will find time to visit us from time to time. Publicity-loving committee member Rose Head is currently in Bristol, filming “Deal or No Deal” – she is sworn to secrecy until the programme is broadcast in April!

This year’s programme is on our website (http://bulphanwi.weebly.com) or in our village shop: do come as a visitor, 7.30 until 10 on the second Wednesday of the month in Bulphan Village Hall – we’d love to see you.
