GRAYS ATHLETIC goalkeeper, Lamar Johnson has been suspended for a year by the FA following their investigation into an incident following a home match with Bury Town.
The match took place on September 25th. Grays Ath won 4-3.
After the game, the clearly frustrated and disappointed Bury Town players returned to the dressing room and were heard to have what appeared to be a full and frank exchange of views with each other.
At this time, the Grays Ath players were on the pitch involved in a post-match discussion with the manager.
Soon after, the Grays players returned to the dressing room, at which point, a further commotion was heard from the dressing room area.
Soon after, the police were called and attended at the Mill Field scene.
An Essex Poice spokesperson said:
“Police were contacted shortly after 10pm on Wednesday, September 25 following reports of a disturbance inside Aveley Football Club on Mill Road.
“Officers arrived and spoke to several people who made allegations of people being in possession of weapons. Following a series of searches and further conversations with players, officials and management teams, officers found no weapon but established that a Bury St Edmunds supporter had threatened the goalkeeper from Grays Athletic Football Club with violence, but nobody was injured and nobody made any criminal allegations”.
The relevant authorituies the submitted a report to the FA.
A spokesperson for Grays Athletic said: “Lamar has been fined and suspended for twelve months for his part in the incident, a charge to which he pleaded guilty.
“No further comment can be made by the club, until appeal opportunities have been exhausted”.
