THE PROSPECTIVE UKIP parliamentary candidate for South Basildon and East Thurrock, Kerry Smith has reacted to the MP’s recent comments over their stance on a Thames Airport.
Mr Smith said: “After numerous issues which have affected the environment that he has, so far, been privileged to represent in Parliament, why on earth is Mr Metcalfe so concerned about the proposed Boris Island airport?
“Mr Metcalfe MP done nothing to defend Basildon Golf Course from being turned into a tip for builders waste. It was the local residents, Lady Angela Smith and opposition politicians like myself that helped to save this area for future generations to enjoy.
Last June, the plans to build 725 ‘executive homes’ on Dry Street were approved. At the planning meeting which was packed with 300 residents to discuss this, Mr Metcalfe was absent and again he was sitting on the fence instead of backing local residents.
As the UKIP Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for South Basildon & East Thurrock, I know this Constituency needs an MP who will fight for this area instead of worrying about a proposed new railway line in the West Midlands.
As for accusing UKIP of alleged U-Turns, who promised to let the people have a say on Europe? Mr Metcalfe. How did he vote in the two proposed in/out EU referendum votes in Parliament? Mr Metcalfe voted twice against an in/out EU referendum.
Let’s not forget Option C. Tory controlled Essex County Council are lobbying for Option C, which will wreck the oasis found in the villages of Bulphan and Orsett.
These remarks made by Mr Metcalfe clearly shows that he knows his time will be up in 2015.
A Tory accusing somebody else of U turns. That’s a bit rich!
I recall Mr Metcalfe in the run up to the last General Election claiming the Conservatives would defend the Greenbelt, rip up Labour’s housebuilding targets and to give communities the power of local referendums to halt planning applications
All Conservative Minster Eric Pickles has done is rubber stamp development of huge swathes of Thurrock’s Green Belt, the Conservatives have increased Labour’s huosebuilding targets and residents can’t vote to stop developments in the Green Belt.
