THIS summer’s Thurrock Writers’ Festival organised by Thurrock Council’s libraries service will include a short-story writing competition.
The festival – Saturday, 14 June – aims to showcase and promote the local writing talent of Thurrock people as well as inspire and encourage new writers in partnership with the local community.
The competition is split into three age groups, eight to 12, 13 to 17, and 18-plus – all entrants must be a Thurrock resident at the time of submission.
The stories are restricted to a maximum of 750 words and there are two “themes” suggested, 1914, and A Twist in the Tale, although the competition is not restricted to the themes as there is an “any subject” category, but only one entry per person may be entered under each subject.
Each entry costs £1 – to be paid in cash at the library when submitting the stories and they should either be typewritten, computer printed, or clearly hand-written.
Entries must arrive at a Thurrock library by Friday, 30 April.
