Football: Andy Swallow takes over as Grays Athletic boss

GRAYS Athletic “Supremo”, Andy Swallow has stepped in to take over as Grays Athletic manager with immediate effect.

Grays Athletic have recently suffered seven straight defeats in a row and, from their lofty position at the top of the league, now sit just above the relegation zone.

The most recent defeat by Canvey Island on Saturday was compounded by injuries to players. There are also a number of uncertainties as to the future of key players such as Jack West and Jeff Hammond, which the club has gone on record as saying will be clarified in a few days.

Swallow’s ascendancy to the hot seat will remind many of the Mickey Woodward era when the colourful chairman of the club managed the club on two occasions.

A statement on the club website by chief executive, Joel Nathan states:

“Due to Ryan Kirby’s heavy workload, we have decided that Andy will step in to run the team and source new signings with immediate effect.

“This allows Ryan to keep his input and continue to coach the team and will also allow him to play more regularly

“They will work closely together with Andy taking the team tomorrow night

“New signings are currently in progress and will be announced soon

“The club will work tirelessly to get us out of our current predicament

“This is not a long term fix and we hope this will help Ryan in the short-term.”

Swallow was on the touch-line on the last occasion that the Blues won a league game back on November 30th against Hampton and Richmond.
