Ryman League Cup Semi-Final
Maidstone United 6 v 0 Grays Athletic
IN CASE Grays fans did not think things could get any worse, the first game under new manager Andy Swallow saw the team succumb to a 6-0 defeat by Maidstone United.
Maidstone are flying high in the Ryman Premier and flew into the finals of the Ryman Robert Dyas League Cup with a garotting of Grays.
Grays Ath held fast for much of the first half but the defence finally cracked just a minute before the break when Zac Attwood scored.
The second half was all one way traffic.
Attwood grabbed a second goal just six minutes after the restart and completed his hat-trick just after the hour.
Charley Robertson made it four on 71 minutes and though Grays threw on fresh legs with a double substitution they couldn’t stem the flow with Dan Parkinson going nap for Stones on 78 minutes and Robertson grabbing the sixth three minutes from time.
Grays Ath now return to concentrate on relegation pressures with a home game against Lewes on Thursday then they travel to AFC Hornchurch on Saturday.
