Grays woman fined for poor state of back garden

ON Friday (21 February) Magistrates at Basildon fined a Grays woman because she had failed to clear up her council house back garden.

Terrie King, of Lenthall Avenue, admitted failing “to remove an accumulation of rubbish in her garden that was causing harbourage and attraction to vermin” and not acting on a notice by Thurrock Council’s environmental protection team.

The notice expired in October last year and the prosecution was brought after King was notified of the offence which also breached the terms of her tenancy agreement.

The court was told she failed to respond to any of the councils’ attempts to contact her about the old settees, an old bed and discarded soft furnishings dumped in the garden.

King admitted the offence and was fined £100 with a victim support surcharge of £20.
