SOUTH CHAFFORD councillor and shadow education spokeperson, cllr Tunde Ojetola believes that the dream of a new senior school in Chafford Hundred is a step closer.
Cllr Ojetola asked the leader of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent: “What is the council doing to support applications for free schools in Thurrock?”
Cllr Kent gave a general reply. He said: “The council promotes early discussion with any organisation that wishes to open a free school….applications will be supported, when and where our pupil planning place forecast..supports the need.”
Cllr Ojetola was ecstatic with this news as he said on Twitter: “Another milestone passed for Harris Federation’s proposal for a new secondary school in Chafford as Thurrock Council will support their proposal”.
Many believe that the success of Harris Academy should be rewarded with the Federation being given the green light to build a second school in Chafford. Others worry about the consequences for the Thurrock senior schools that are undersubscribed.
