Victory for the Save Orsett Heath campaigners as planning bid thrown out

THERE were jubilant scenes in the public gallery at Thurrock Council last night as a planning application to build 350 homes on green belt land on Orsett Heath was rejected.

The planning committee at Thurrock Council voted unanimously to reject the application on land that stretches from the north west section of Chadwell St Mary across to the Old A13.

An impressive campaign led by community champion and civic award winner Angela Luff, hundreds of members of the community and the local councillors culminated in a massed demo outside the council meeting and then shrieks of joy and relief when the committee decided to reject the application.

YT spoke to Mrs Luff before the meeting and filmed the proposers, objectors and councillors as they discussed then decided on the application.
