Football: Rocks grab vital victory

Ryman Premier

East Thurrock 3 v 1 Maidstone United

THERE is still a long way to the end of the season and there is clearly life in East Thurrock United as they pulled off a terrific victory to beat promotion-chasing Maidstone United 3-1 at Rookery Hill.

Many may be surprised but not boss John Coventry who has always had resolute faith in his men. They still have twelve games left and so there are plenty of points to play with.

The Rocks were 1-0 up after six minutes with an early strike by Lewis Smith. It remained that way until the 44th minute when Neil Richmond made it 2-0.

Zac Attwood got the Maidstone back into the game with a goal in the 57th minute but Lewis smith struck again in the 68th minute to give the Rocks all three points.

Rocks now move on to play at home against Hendon on Saturday, followed by Hampton and Richmond on Tuesday and then down to Maidstone United at the end of the month.

  1. Great result for Rocks.

Heard a rumour that Stuart Thurgood played his last game at Grays last week. Apparently he wanted his final game to be at Grays, the team he captained so well and achieved so much.

Good luck to him for his future which I hope will continue in football in some capacity.
