Hathaway Road in Grays cordoned off after man found with serious head injuries.

Police statement

A section of Hathaway Road in Grays has been closed by police following the discovery of an injured man in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

Police were contacted shortly before 3am on Thursday, March 20 following reports that a man had been found collapsed on the road and had sustained a head injury.

Officers and paramedics arrived to find the injured man and a bicycle nearby. The man, who is believed to be in his 60s, was taken to hospital and is currently in a serious condition with hospital staff still assessing the extent of his facial injuries.

Police are trying to establish whether he has been assaulted, fallen or suffered a medical illness at the scene. As a result, they have been forced to close a section of the road near its junction with Ward Avenue which has had an impact on the morning rush hour. This closure is expected to remain in place for the remainder of this morning so motorists and pedestrians are asked to seek alternative routes to their destinations.

Anyone who was on Hathaway Road between on 2:30-3am on Thursday morning should contact Essex Police on 101.

 

 

 

 

Update: 0850 hrs

ESSEX Police are investigating after a man was found collapsed in Hathaway Road in Grays.

The local man, in his sixties, was found, lying at the side of the road, with head injuries at 0250 hrs this morning (Thursday).

Emergency services attended and transferred the man to hospital for further assessment.

The area near to the junction of Hathaway Road and Ward Avenue has been cordoned off whilst further investigation takes place.

There may be disruption to traffic in the area during the day.

WE are following up a report that Hathaway Road (Lodge Lane end) in Grays has been blocked off by the police.
