IF YOU click on the film below this story, you will see a forty second panning shot of the state of Terry Newberry’s transformed home in Daiglen Drive.
A weekend without proper wash facilities is not entirely how the disabled sixty-year-old had seen his home transformed.
We are now into Day 14 of the repairs/overhaul/transformation of the maisonette.
YT understands that Mr Newberry expects a plethora of council officers and contractors to visit him on Tuesday morning to discuss the situation.
In the meantime, Ockendon councillor, Lynn Carr has expressed her concerns that residents are not being given the correct details.
Cllr Carr said:
“Under the new capital programme there are three contractors visiting and working in council homes to install kitchens, bathrooms, windows etc.
It has come to my attention that on occasion the residents are not being given paperwork with contact details for a resident to report a concern or speak to an operative concerning the works being carried out in their properties.
Below are the contractors contact details for residents to speak direct with a representative for the works being carried out.

No surprise here.
Absolutely disgraceful that on day 14 the house still looks like a building site….how on earth do they expect people to live like this?????
as you say Sankebiteuk, its no suprise , however that doesnt make it acceptable in any way!!!
Would any council members live like this?Of course not they can afford to go stay in a hotel!!if works are going to take this long especially when being all done at the same time then the tennants should be housed elsewhere during these “revamps” at the councils cost!!
Stephanie, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments, I was and note was one, of the members to turn up at the Decent Homes commitee meetings which was open to all residents. Over the months very few attended, those that did attend I can only assume were there for the sandwiches and tea. I can assure you that I and two others voiced our views very frequently demanding the best for the tenants of Thurrock. It does get tiring to constantly read about the incompetence of this Labour Council, as I have said no surprise here. The incompetence not only lies with the Head of Services who employed these three dodgy firms, it also comes down to the tenants who had the chance to have their say over the eight months. Too late now the horse has bolted.
Surely Thurrock Council should be issuing the tenants with a complaints line direct to the council? Most tenants including my daughter get fobbed off by the contractors! I very much doubt that the contractors will admit the extent of the problems to Thurrock Council when they can try and manage it in house out of sight of the council and just brush you under the carpet.

Could I suggest your daughter and other tenants go through the complaints system, sadly this seems the only route left to tenants, TBC will have to inform you of their investigation. There are 3 stages when it gets to stage 3 you can bet your life they will be falling over themselves to get the works done. Good luck

Snakebite, thanks for that, I believe my daughter has spoken to the complaints line and Cllr Carr.
