TILBURY resident Yewande Kannike has done the town proud by completing the 26.2 mile London Marathon last Sunday.
The 46 year old, dubbed ‘Superwoman’ by friends, took 7 hrs and 1 min to complete the race, all in aid of charity.
Yewande said: “I knew it was going to be hard but I really wanted to raise money for One Community, a local charity here in Tilbury. Theirs isn’t a cause that immediately pulls at your heartstrings, but they make such a difference to people’s lives by always being there, happy to help and giving people the confidence , skills and information to make things better for themselves and their families.
“Thanks to your wonderful donations, I’ve been able to raise nearly £2,000 so far! Please continue to sponsor me, either online through http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/yewande or by popping into the One Community shop next to Tilbury Taxis”.
One Community Chair, Sarah Bryant, said: “We’re so grateful to Yewande. We just can’t imagine the sheer willpower it must have taken to keep on going for 7 long, painful hours – that’s an amazing achievement and the mark of a true champion! A big thank you to Yewande and everyone who sponsored her. This is such a precious gift to One Community. It will help us to continue supporting people in our community and releasing local potential”.
