Burglaries in Thurrock: Feb 2014: 156 committed and only three solved…..

THE number of burglaries committed in Thurrock continues to rise, according to the government website, www.police.uk.

In February, 2014 there were 156 burglaries. Of those burglaries, 153 remain unsolved. Of the three that were solved, two in Richmond Road, Grays are awaiting an outcome. However, another in Hall Terrace has seen the defendant found not guilty.

Whilst other police forces have expressed their concerns at solve rates dipping under 30%, Thurrock’s has continued to decline at an alarming rate.

In 2006, 208 of the 1815 burglaries were solved.
In 2011, 189 of the 1642 burglaries were solved.
In 2012, 172 of the 1589 burglaries were solved.
In 2013, 111 of the 1640 burglaries were solved.

But, if the statistic are correct, then the sorry decline shows no signing of picking itself off the floor.

As we wrote in January, of the 120 burglaries in December 2013, not a single one was solved. As you can see, February 2014 paints another bleak picture.

It is an issue that we will be picking up with local politicians on the campaign trail between now and May 22nd.

  1. Had some thugs in the early hours of the morning climbing my gate and trying to break into my shed, my neighbour disturbed them so they fled. Is it worth reporting!!! I suppose I will waste a phone call if I bother. I have put some dog poo near my gate and shed, that should sort these slippery thugs out.

  2. Having been a victim to this myself twice in 6 months I very keen on understanding this info and very concerned about the poor results. Out of a row of 5 terraced houses there has been 6 burglaries.

I’m interested to know out of those shown as solved how many resulted on a prosecution how many resulted in a successful prosecution and how many resulted in a jail term. I suspect that these figures would paint an pitifully picture.

I’m also aware that if nothing is reported stolen then the police categorise the crime as criminal damage rather than a burglary or attempted burglary.
