Hundreds pay respects at funeral of John Scowen

THE FUNERAL of John Scowen was how the former chair of Thurrock Arts Council would have wanted it.

Over three hundred attended at the Corbets Tey crematorium. Many had to stand outside as the service was relayed through a screen. It was a sad service and yet befitting of a man so dearly beloved by family and friends and the wider community.

Afterwards, the community returned to John’s “second home”, the Thameside Theatre, for a reception. In fitting style, a fifteen minute film documenting John’s life at home and on the stage played.

Thanks to Mike Jones for allowing us to reproduce the film.
